Environmental Technology Portfolio
A small selection of recent developments in environmental technologies and their potential applications.
“After 3.8 billion years of research and development, failures are fossils, and what surrounds us is the secret to survival.”
Janine Benyus
The Plan:
Over the course of sixty plus hours, create five distinct projects that reflect skills with and knowledge of technologies which can be applied to environmental science. To be completed by April 30th. This will include: a hands-on project in the form of building an Arduino board, two written projects (technology evaluation and opinion piece), a life cycle analysis of a household item using open LCA and an interactive presentation about the use of CRISPR-Cas9 in Environmental Science.
Life Cycle Assessment
created using openLCA
This downloadable excel file contains a life cycle assessment for 1kg of apple crumble, created at a factory in France. This is based on data taken from the Agribalyse database and analytical tools from the Environmental Footprint database.
The openLCA software also allows the user to list inputs and outputs, create graphical models of impact, compare the impact of different products and processes; and shows the user environmental impact broken down into extensive categories with specific unit amounts.
